Project Description

Over the years slight improvements have been made to implement functional components to the convenience station.  We have added concrete pads using Keep America Beautiful grants and also a second gate. 

The next phase includes modifying the layout of the containers to provide access through one gate and egress through a separate gate.  The ramps will be eliminated, the site will be graded and graveled throughout with all containers accessible from the ground.  Signage in English and Spanish will be added.  The site will be monitored via cameras to assure compliance with site rules.

Project Updates

  • Progress Report

    The convenience station was opened today while we complete the finishing touches and work on logistics.  We plan to replace the oil recycling container.  Two new compactors have been added.  One for household waste and one for yard trash.  There are two gates.  One entrance and one exit.

    • The site has been cleared and all rolloffs have been removed.
    • The layout has been finalized. 
    • The ramps have been demolished. 
    • The trees have been removed and stumps ground. 
    • The Electrician has been working on installing electrical to the two new compactors. 

     

    Once the electrical has been completed, the stabilized material will be spread and the rolloffs installed as well as new signage.

    Council approved a transfer of funds on September 12, 2019 to fund this project. 

  • Convenience Station Will be Closed September 9 -24

    The Town is going to implement upgrades to the convenience station.  The Town will close the station for business on September 9 and reopen September 24, 2019.  As a reminder, the Town does not accept the following items at the convenience station-tires, paint, electronics (TVs or computers), chemicals, batteries, explosives or fluorescent light bulbs. 

    Residents can take up to 5 tires to the Colleton County landfill.   Paint that has been dried out with sand or kitty litter, electronics, and batteries can be taken to the Colleton County landfill or the site at Bennett’s Point.  No Colleton County sites take chemicals or explosives.

    Monday -Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or to

     

    The Bennett’s Point convenience site is located at 14451 Bennett’s Point, Green Pond, SC 

    Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.,

    Monday 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.,

    Wednesday 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

    Friday and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
