Litter Removal 174

On November 10, 2010, Town Council approved $7,500 from Hospitality Funds for litter removal from SC 174 from the McKinley Washington Bridge to Edisto Beach contingent upon receipt of matching funds from sources other than Edisto Beach.

Historically, Edisto Beach has paid for this service using Accommodations Tax Funds. At a meeting with representatives of the Tourism Expenditure Review Committee (TERC) in 2010, the Town was informed that ATAX funds could not be used for litter removal. The Town applied for Accommodations Tax Funds from Charleston County and on March 10, 2011 was denied funding from Charleston County in which the majority of SC 174 lies. The stated reason for denial was ATAX funds could not be used for litter removal.

The Town has contacted the Charleston County Department of Corrections and the South Carolina State Department of Transportation and have had SC 174 added to their schedules for litter removal.

Quotes for litter removal are due by March 25, 2011 and litter removal is scheduled to resume the week of March 28, 2011.  To date the following donations have been received by the Town of Edisto Beach as matching funds:
