Robert “Bob” Doub, Utilities Director of Edisto Beach, was named Manager of the Year by the South Carolina Rural Water Association. “The SCRWA Awards of Excellence provide an opportunity to recognize and honor the efforts and accomplishments of our industry leaders’ devoted to stewardship of our most essential resource, clean water,” said Patrick Jackson, SCRWA Executive Vice President. “Quietly and selflessly SCRWA’s system members provide drinking water and sewer service to over 2 million South Carolinians each day. The Palmetto State’s water and wastewater utilities commitment to service is personified in each of this year’s winners.”

Mission
The Edisto Beach Utilities Department is committed to providing water and sewer services on a 7 day/24 hour basis by monitoring, maintaining and repairing Edisto Beach’s Utility wastewater plants, sewer pump stations and the water facilities. The Department is dedicated to providing reliable potable water for the citizens and visitors to the beach by meeting the required EPA and DHEC requirements. As part of this program, the Department ensures adequate supplies are available for fire protection.
Major Accomplishments
- Revised policies to include charges for call out services
- Installed new variable frequency drive pump at wellfield increaseing pumping volume
- Replaced Booster Pump #2 at Wellfield with stainless steel pump
- Installed variable frequency drive units of lift stations A & C to the place of SCE&G's Ronk phase converters
- Installed radio communication system for SCADA to improve system operational capacities
- Implemented lift station and manhole rehabilitation
- Installed 6" water main across Palmetto Boulevard at Eddings and Edisto Streets for future water expansion of water service and fire protection on Point Street
- Replaced valves Lee Street lift station
- Started BYO GON sludge removal at wastewater treatment pond
- Replaced valves and check valves at Summerwinds lift station
- Added 40 feet of well piping to Well # 5
- Rebuilt and replaced 2 air relief valves on sewer system
- Re-routed several water lines for stormwater drainage project
- Replaced aerators at wastewater treatment plant
- Replaced control panel at Summerwinds lift station
- Installed new control panel at Lift Station C
