 Mission

The Edisto Beach Public Works Program provides a wide array of public services that are vital to the efficient daily operation of the Town, from maintaining storm drainage systems, to maintaining streets, roads and rights of way, maintaining Edisto’s beaches and accesses, installing sand fencing, maintaining town parks, properties and buildings, maintaining regulatory and non-regulatory signage, maintaining bike/walk/recreational trails, providing support to the sanitation program by delivering garbage cans and removing from street when impeding drainage, maintaining the Town’s convenience station, and assisting other Town programs and departments as needed.

Accomplishments (FY 2010-11)

  • Looked at potential problems with evacuation on SC 174
  • Replaced dead trees at Coral Street Beach Access under warranty
  • Scott Creek crossing design and permitting
  • Bike path bridge redesign and replacement
  • Installed 1,400 feet of sand fencing
  • Installed reflective water sign
  • Installed highly reflective recycling sign
  • Added walk through gate at convenience center for 24 hour access
  • Developed stormwater Capital Improvement Plan
  • Added bike path signs at Wyndham intersection
  • Mitchell Street beach access boardwalk repair
  • Baynard Street waste enclosure repair
  • Palmetto Boulevard drainage project and repaving (Stimulus Funding)
  • Added beach access parking at Neptune, Jenkins, Baynard Mitchell
  • Replaced "Danger Keep Off" signs at groins
  • Jungle Road park maintenance
  • Burley L. Lyons park maintenance and dock permitting
  • Issued bids for mowing of Bay Creek Park
  • Issued bids for road grading
  • Resurfaced Vine Street bike path
  • Completed Osceola Drainage
  • Completed Lee Street Drainage
  • Participated in Edisto Beach Sweep
  • Installed "Keep off Dunes" signs
  • Scraped and herbicided Lybrand/Docksite bike path
  • Mowed 762,112 square yards of grass with 384,497 DOT rights of way
  • Cleaned 38,686 feet of storm drainage ditches
  • Replaced and/or installed 150 signs
  • Delivered or replaced 211 roll carts
